Lasik

LASIK Procedure and Cost

The usual time schedule for LASIK is three days. Overseas patients may need to schedule for a week in Mumbai from the day of your surgery till the day you leave the country for your homeland.

day 01
Pre-operative LASIK
Evaluation

It might surprise you to know that not every eye is suitable for the LASIK procedure; we turn down about 10-15 percent of patients who ask for the procedure. There are a number of criteria that your eye must meet before we accept you under our care. Therefore, we need to assess your eyes during a pre-operative consultation before we can schedule your surgery. The equipment we use is unique to LASIK evaluation and unlike any other routine eye check you might have had in the past.

Lenses distort (warp) the cornea and thus might influence the accurate measurements. To assist us in making your evaluation as accurate as possible, please ensure that:

  • Soft contact lenses should be removed 48 hours before your consultation. Feel free to wear your spectacles during these two days.
  • Hard/gas permeable lenses should be removed 10 days to two weeks before consultation. Feel free to wear your spectacles during these 10-14 days.
  • For consultation, bring along any old spectacle or contact lens prescriptions (or details of any eye treatment you have had in the past).

The measurements we usually make during this time are:

  • Assessment of your corrected vision
  • Assessment of your tear secretion
  • Slit lamp examination of the anterior and posterior segment of the eye
  • Intraocular pressure measurement
  • Corneal topography (Digital mapping of the surface of the cornea)
  • Pachymetry (Corneal thickness measurement)
  • Retinal and optic nerve examination.
  • Further tests may be carried out at the discretion of your examining surgeon
day 02
Day of the
Procedure

On the day of the procedure, please arrange to have someone with you. Refrain from wearing perfumes, make-up or nail varnish as alcohol vapors that emanate from the aforementioned can interfere with the purity of the laser beam.

If you have any anxieties whatsoever about your treatment, our staff will be happy to assist you. Our aim is to make you feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible.

Once the laser has been calibrated, you will be escorted to the laser room. Few minutes after the anaesthetic eye drops are put into your eyes, the LASIK procedure will begin.

As the procedure unfolds, you will be asked to look into a red light and in about 3-4 minutes the LASIK procedure will be over. You will feel no pain. Our patients often ask in wonderment, if the procedure is "really over?"

Your eyes are examined immediately after the procedure, and about an hour later, you are free to go home. Our staff will give you detailed instructions on post-operative care before you leave the clinic.

day 03
After the
Surgery

We will examine your eyes the next morning or the day after.Subsequent visits will be at the discretion of your examining surgeon. You are, however, free to visit the clinic as many times as you feel comfortable, should you wish to do so.

Enhancement / Repeat procedure

On rare occasions the eye does not respond fully to the laser treatment (about 5-7% of cases), usually, but not exclusively in those cases, which have a high initial spectacle correction. In these rare instances, an enhancement procedure is required. It involves lifting the flap and re-applying the laser for a few seconds.

What is the cost of LASIK?

Banaji Eyecare offers a comprehensive LASIK surgery and our fee includes the following services:

  • Pre-operative consultation
  • Surgeon's fees
  • Laser facility charges
  • Follow-up post-operative care for one year after the surgery
  • Any enhancement procedure that may be necessary in the year following your surgery

At Banaji Eyecare, Dr. Burjor Banaji believes eyes are extremely valuable and operates on each and every one of his patients himself. He personally examines each patient before surgery and also participates in their post-operative care. His personal involvement is the key to Banaji Eyecare’s outstanding results.

Since, no two people’s eyes are the same and neither are their eye conditions, similarly, the type of treatment offered also varies. We firmly believe that whilst cost may be one of the factors you take into consideration;it should not be the main factor.

Do not look for discounts when you are buying parachutes, life jackets and LASIK surgery.
